Three questions that settle almost any borderline item

  1. Does the package carry a Drug Facts label? Yes → almost always eligible.
  2. Does it treat or diagnose a specific condition (as opposed to general health or appearance)? Yes → likely eligible.
  3. Would a healthy person buy it anyway? Yes → probably not eligible.
